“There is very little new or shocking information in Apatow’s doc, except for the reveal that Macdonald was a deeply closeted gay man.”
This was also a fabrication of Norm’s. His frequent use of gay jokes and stating he was a deeply closeted gay man were pure comedic misdirection rather than a reflection of his personal life.

This is a solid write up. I liked the documentary a lot, and thought it was a smart choice for Apatow to use material from Norm’s audiobook of his own fake memoir. To me, that defines Norm: even personal stories are delivered with the timing of a stand up savant, with the truth being subservient to being funny.
